Magnolia (1999)

The trailer for Magnolia revisits Paul Thomas Anderson's sprawling, emotional mosaic of lives in the San Fernando Valley. Over one rainy day, a group of strangers' stories intersect: a dying TV producer and his young wife, his estranged son who now preaches a seduction program called Seduce and Destroy, a game show host hiding a family secret, a child prodigy and a former quiz kid, a lonely police officer and the nurse caring for the producer. As coincidence and regret pile up, something extraordinary falls from the sky. Tom Cruise earned an Oscar nomination as the self-help guru Frank T.J. Mackey, with Julianne Moore, Philip Seymour Hoffman, William H. Macy, John C. Reilly, Philip Baker Hall, Melora Walters and Jason Robards. Anderson writes and directs, with songs by Aimee Mann. New Line released it in December 1999. It is available to rent or buy digitally.
