Glory (1989)

The Glory trailer is for Edward Zwick's 1989 Civil War drama about the 54th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment, one of the first Union units made up of Black soldiers. Robert Gould Shaw, played by Matthew Broderick, is a young officer from a wealthy abolitionist Boston family who is given command of the new regiment. His men include a proud, angry runaway slave named Trip, played by Denzel Washington, a wise gravedigger named Rawlins, played by Morgan Freeman, and an educated friend from home, played by Andre Braugher. Facing racism even from the Union Army, the soldiers fight for respect, fair pay and the chance to prove themselves in battle at Fort Wagner. Washington won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. It is based on Shaw's letters. It is available on Blu-ray and digital.
