Directed by Abel Ferrara (2026)

The Directed by Abel Ferrara trailer is for a Criterion Channel retrospective of the provocative New York filmmaker. The collection gathers 18 films spanning almost five decades of Ferrara's confrontational, genre-bending work, from science fiction and horror to inside-Hollywood melodrama, along with documentaries that share the same raw, urgent energy as his feature films. Ferrara is best known for films such as Bad Lieutenant, starring Harvey Keitel, King of New York, starring Christopher Walken, and the vampire film The Addiction. His movies mix street-level grit with big questions about guilt, faith and sin. The series comes with a new introduction by critic Sean Fennessey as part of Criterion's Spotlight line. It arrived on the Criterion Channel as part of its September 2026 lineup and streams there for subscribers.
