The Shop Around the Corner (1940)

The Shop Around the Corner trailer is for Ernst Lubitsch's 1940 romantic comedy set in a Budapest gift shop in the weeks before Christmas. Alfred Kralik, played by James Stewart, is the top salesman at Matuschek and Company. He clashes with the new clerk, Klara Novak, played by Margaret Sullavan, from her very first day. Neither knows that they have been writing anonymous love letters to each other through a lonely-hearts club, and that each is falling for the other on paper. Frank Morgan plays the shop's owner, who has troubles of his own. The story was later remade as the musical In the Good Old Summertime and the 1998 film You've Got Mail. It is available on DVD and digital.
