The Ref (1994)

The Ref trailer is for the 1994 dark comedy directed by Ted Demme. On Christmas Eve, a cat burglar named Gus, played by Denis Leary, botches a job in a wealthy Connecticut town and takes a married couple hostage. The problem is that Lloyd and Caroline, played by Kevin Spacey and Judy Davis, never stop fighting, and with Lloyd's family about to arrive for Christmas dinner, Gus ends up refereeing their marriage. Glynis Johns plays Lloyd's mother, and Christine Baranski co-stars. It is a sharp-tongued, R-rated alternative for people who like their Christmas movies with more insults than sentiment, and it has gained a cult following over the years.
