The Last Samurai (2003)

The trailer for The Last Samurai revisits Edward Zwick's sweeping historical epic set in 1870s Japan. Nathan Algren is a haunted former U.S. Army captain, scarred by the Indian Wars, who is hired to train the new Japanese emperor's army in modern warfare. When he is captured in battle by samurai rebels led by Katsumoto, a warrior fighting to preserve the old ways, Algren spends a winter in their village. Slowly he comes to respect their code of honor, and when war comes, he has to choose a side. Tom Cruise plays Algren and Ken Watanabe plays Katsumoto in an Oscar-nominated role, with Koyuki, Hiroyuki Sanada, Timothy Spall, Billy Connolly and Tony Goldwyn. Zwick directs and co-wrote the script. Warner Bros. released it on December 5, 2003. It is available to rent or buy digitally.
