Lawrence of Arabia (1962)

The Lawrence of Arabia trailer sells David Lean's epic on its vast scale, and the desert lives up to it. Peter O'Toole, in his breakout role, plays T. E. Lawrence, the British officer who helped lead the Arab Revolt against the Ottoman Empire during World War I. The film follows him from a restless junior officer in Cairo to a legend of the desert, and shows the cost of that legend on the man himself. Alec Guinness plays Prince Faisal, with Jack Hawkins, Anthony Quinn and Omar Sharif in the cast. Producer Sam Spiegel made the film from Lawrence's life and his 1926 book Seven Pillars of Wisdom. The trailer shows the endless sand, the camel charges and the widescreen photography that filmmakers still study today. It is moviemaking at its biggest.
