Fargo (1996)

The trailer for Fargo revisits the Coen brothers' darkly funny crime story set in the snowy Upper Midwest. Jerry Lundegaard, a desperate Minneapolis car salesman deep in debt, hires two small-time criminals to kidnap his own wife so his wealthy father-in-law will pay the ransom. The plan goes wrong almost immediately, leaving a trail of bodies across the frozen countryside. On the case is Marge Gunderson, a very pregnant, very polite and very sharp police chief from Brainerd. Frances McDormand plays Marge in an Oscar-winning role, with William H. Macy as Jerry, Steve Buscemi, Peter Stormare and Harve Presnell. Joel and Ethan Coen write and direct. Gramercy released it on March 8, 1996. It is available to rent or buy digitally.
