Brazil (1985)

The trailer for Brazil previews Terry Gilliam's darkly funny vision of a bureaucratic future. Sam Lowry is a low-level clerk in a retro-futuristic world run by paperwork, ducts and endless government forms. When a squashed bug causes a typo that leads to the arrest of the wrong man, Sam is drawn into the case, chasing a woman he has seen only in his dreams and running afoul of the state that employs him. Jonathan Pryce plays Sam, with Robert De Niro as a rogue heating engineer, Kim Greist, Katherine Helmond, Ian Holm, Bob Hoskins and Michael Palin. Gilliam directs and co-wrote the script with Tom Stoppard and Charles McKeown. Universal released the film in the US in December 1985. It is available to rent or buy digitally.
