Sheep in the Box (2026)

The Sheep in the Box trailer is for Hirokazu Kore-eda's 2026 Japanese science fiction drama. In the near future, a grieving couple, played by Haruka Ayase and Daigo Yamamoto, adopts a state-of-the-art humanoid robot to be their son. The boy, played by Kawaki Rimu, looks and acts almost human, and the family has to figure out what it means to love someone who was built rather than born. Nana Seino and Akihiro Kakuta co-star. Kore-eda, the director of Shoplifters and Monster, wrote, directed and edited it. It premiered in competition at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival and opened in Japan on May 29. Neon is handling the U.S. release, planned for theaters this fall.
