The In Waves official trailer is for an animated true story based on AJ Dungo's best-selling 2019 graphic memoir. AJ, voiced by Will Sharpe, is a quiet high school student in Los Angeles who spends his time drawing and skateboarding. Kristen, voiced by Stephanie Hsu, is a bright, energetic surfer who finds freedom in the ocean. When they meet, curiosity turns into love. Kristen teaches AJ to surf and shares the sport's deep roots in Hawaiian culture, and AJ starts drawing their story to hold on to it. Phuong Mai Nguyen directs. In Waves opens in select theaters on November 27, 2026, and streams on Netflix from December 11.
