Donnie Darko 25th Anniversary (2026)

The Donnie Darko 25th Anniversary trailer announces the return of Richard Kelly's 2001 cult classic to theaters. Donnie, played by Jake Gyllenhaal, is a troubled suburban teenager in 1988 who sleepwalks out of his house one night and meets Frank, a figure in a menacing rabbit costume. Frank tells him the world will end in 28 days, 6 hours, 42 minutes and 12 seconds. When a jet engine crashes into Donnie's bedroom while he is gone, he starts following Frank's instructions, and the story spins into time travel, fate and teenage alienation. Jena Malone, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Mary McDonnell, Drew Barrymore and Patrick Swayze co-star. The re-release features a new 4K restoration and an introduction from Kelly. It played in theaters nationwide October 2–4, 2026.
