Cunk on Cinema Trailer: Philomena Cunk Hits Netflix November 15
Diane Morgan's deadpan documentarian takes on the history of film, with Michael Bay and Benedict Cumberbatch in the interview chair.
Cunk on Cinema premieres worldwide on Netflix on November 15, 2026. It debuts in the UK on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer on November 12. Netflix released the first trailer on October 29.
Diane Morgan returns as Philomena Cunk, the confidently clueless presenter she has played since 2013 in specials and series about Shakespeare, Christmas, Britain and, in Cunk on Earth, all of human history. This time her subject is the movies. Netflix says she'll ask where cinema came from, and why.
The series follows film history from the invention of the camera through the 1960s New Wave filmmakers, the arrival of CGI and the question of what AI means for the future. As always, the joke is in the interviews. Real experts try to answer Cunk's questions with straight faces.
The trailer features Michael Bay and Benedict Cumberbatch in the interview chair. The wider lineup includes composer Daniel Pemberton, cinematographer Seamus McGarvey, critics Mark Kermode and Mark Cousins, and Die Hard co-writer Steven E. de Souza.
Charlie Brooker, the creator of Black Mirror, leads the writing team, and Al Campbell directs. Brooker, Morgan, Jessica Rhoades and Sam Ward are executive producers. Pacesetter Production made the series for the BBC, and Netflix carries it worldwide, as it did with Cunk on Earth.
If you haven't seen Cunk before, the format is easy to explain. It's a straight-faced documentary with a presenter who has done no homework. Morgan never winks at the camera, and the experts rarely know how to handle her, which is why clips from Cunk on Earth spread so widely online.
Watch the official trailer above. The full series streams on Netflix starting Sunday, November 15.
